Sympathetic barn conversions that preserve original features while creating exceptional modern homes — delivered with the expertise period buildings demand.
A barn conversion is one of the most rewarding building projects you can undertake — transforming a redundant agricultural structure into a home that is genuinely one of a kind.
It requires an experienced team that understands heritage materials, planning requirements and the structural complexities of old buildings. With 37 years of experience, Claremont brings exactly that — alongside a genuine respect for the character of every building we work on.

Yes — barn conversions require full planning permission and, if the building is listed, listed building consent. Some agricultural buildings may benefit from permitted development rights under Class Q. We assess this early and manage all applications on your behalf.
A barn conversion is typically a 12–20 month project, including the design and planning stage. Build programmes vary significantly depending on the size and condition of the structure. We provide a clear programme before work begins.
In most cases the barn is unoccupied at the start, so this is not applicable. If you have a farmhouse on the same plot, we plan the works to cause minimal disruption to the surrounding property.
The planning authority will usually specify that original or matching materials are used — traditional brick, stone, lime mortar and timber. We source appropriate materials and have the skills to work with them correctly.
