Designer Kitchen & Island
Witham, Essex
Strip-out complete — ready for structural works The client had recently purchased a large modern detached home and wanted to replace the builder-spec kitchen with something significantly more considered — a dark, handleless kitchen with a large island that could serve as both prep space and informal dining. The existing layout required a structural wall to be partially removed to achieve the proportions needed, and the client wanted the works completed within a school-term window to minimise disruption.
Structural opening formed and lintel installed A non-loadbearing partition wall separating the kitchen from the utility room was removed and the opening widened with a new lintelled opening, extending the floor area available for the island run. Services — gas, water and waste — were re-routed to the agreed island position before the screed was poured, allowing all pipework to be concealed within the floor structure. The electrician installed a dedicated consumer unit for the kitchen with smart-metering capability.
Handleless kitchen fitted and appliances installed The bespoke handleless kitchen in a deep charcoal matte finish was supplied by the client's designer and installed by Claremont's fit-out team. Cabinet carcasses were built to ceiling height with integrated appliances — two ovens, a warming drawer, full-height larder fridge and wine cooler. The island — in a contrasting warm oak — was fitted over the concealed services and topped with a 30mm Calacatta quartz slab, fabricated and templated on site.
Finished kitchen — handover day Once the kitchen was signed off, our decorating team skim-plastered all walls, painted in a custom-matched warm white, and laid large-format porcelain floor tiles throughout the kitchen and utility room in a chevron bond. The quartz upstand and splashback were fitted last. The project was completed on schedule, with zero snagging items raised at handover.
The finished project.
Claremont delivered a kitchen that looks like it belongs in an architectural magazine. The project ran smoothly from demolition to final snag — the team were professional, clean and always communicated clearly. The island alone was worth every penny.
